University of Sheffield
The programme at Sheffield is a wonderful opportunity for students worldwide to experience life in another culture, and enrich their academic careers in the process.
The University of Sheffield is a premier-league, research-led institution with a population of over 25,000 students including more than 3,700 international students from 120 countries.
We are at the forefront of world research. That means what we teach you is informed by the very latest developments in each discipline. Our expertise produces courses that make a real difference to your future.
Studying and socialising with British undergraduates and thousands of others from 125 countries, you'll experience the best that British education and life have to offer.
We provide an experience geared towards the individual, with an emphasis on academic quality. The modules (courses) you take are part of our regular curriculum, so you’ll study alongside home students and become fully integrated into British university life. You’ll be allocated an academic adviser in the departments where you take your modules to guide you through your stay with us. Expect new challenges and new rewards. Sheffield can give you a fresh perspective on your subject and on life. You’ll grow in confidence and independence, returning to your home institution to complete your degree with renewed enthusiasm.
When you become a Sheffield student, you automatically become a member of the best Union of Students in the UK. For many of our students from overseas, the Union is what makes their experience here so memorable.
There are over 200 clubs and societies based in the Union, where like-minded students get together to pursue their hobbies and interests. Many of these are national societies, run by international students, organising events and trips, supporting each other, and sharing their culture with everyone. And you don’t have to join a club to make the most of your time here. Our awardwinning "Give It A Go" scheme lets you sample different clubs and activities without making a commitment. It’s a great way to get to know people.
Living in Sheffield
Sheffield is one of the cheapest places in the UK to live and study. According to a survey of 26 university towns and cities (Natwest Student Living Index 2008), living costs for Sheffield students are the third lowest in the country.
Sheffield is one of the greenest cities in England with 150 woodlands and 50 public parks within the city. The greenery is throughout the city from the centre, where the Winter Gardens is Europe's largest city centre temperate glasshouse, to the countryside, where the Peak District national park is only ten minutes away from the University.
Legends like The Leadmill continue to thrive, while clubs like Plug and Fez are added to the eclectic mix all the time. The Forum hosts a different event every night: salsa, hip-hop, retro funk, house. Bars like Bungalows and Bears insist on a laid-back atmosphere.
Sport is big in Sheffield. There are world-class facilities at Don Valley International Stadium, Sheffield Arena, and Ponds Forge and diving complex. The Peak District National Park is a haven for rock climbers, walkers and cyclists.
While abroad, students continue to pay their Case tuition rather than the tuition at their new institution. In addition there are several expenses students’ financial aid can potentially help to fund. These are listed in the attachments below.
